Hand-foot syndrome (HFS), or palmar-plantar erythrodysesthesia (PPE), is the most frequently reported side effect of oral capecitabine therapy (Xeloda) and may also result from the use of other cancer drugs. This article, aimed at oncology nurses, describes HFS and its symptoms and discusses assessment tools and treatment guidelines.
