Taxane-Platinum
Combinations in Advanced NSCLC: A Review (The Oncologist)
by James R. Rigas, MD
v.9 (suppl 2) The Oncologist (June 2004): 16-23
Reviews the use of taxane chemotherapy in the treatment of NSCLC.
Identifies key findings from the four large randomized trials assessing
platinum-taxane combinations in advanced NSCLC, including efficacy, side

Is
There a Preferred Combination Chemotherapy Regimen for Metastatic NSCLC?
(The Oncologist)
by David S. Ettinger, MD
v.7, no.3 The Oncologist (June 2002): 226-233
Discusses the new chemotherapy agents (paclitaxel, docetaxel,
gemcitabine, vinorelbine, irinotecan, and topotecan) used for treatment
of advanced NSCLC. Notes that these agents have been combined with cisplatin,
carboplatin and nonplatinum drugs to produce median survival times of
8-10 months and 1 and 2 year survival rates of 35-40% and 10-15% respectively.
Based on this review, there is not a preferred combination chemotherapy
to treat advanced NSCLC patients; however, there are a number of different
regimens from which to choose. Aimed at physicians. [6/02]
